Oh Man. Jack Eichel Deserves So Much Better

David Pastrnak goes coast-to-coast against the Vancouver Canucks and the Bruins get out of there with a 6-3 win. Connor McDavid hits us with the assist of the year against Chicago and the Oilers get out of there with a win in overtime. Auston Matthews scores a coast-to-coast beauty against Montreal last week and the Maple Leafs get out of there with a 4-3 win. Jack Eichel takes over, makes this coast-to-coast goal look like he’s not even trying, aaaaaaaaaand the Sabres lost 4-2 to the Canucks last night. Got out shot by the Vancouver Canucks 41-22. That makes Buffalo 1-5-2 on the season. You’ve got all these young stars in the league taking over games and the rest of their team is following suit. Then you’ve got Jack Eichel in Buffalo who is doing everything he possibly can to lift his team up–even if that means doing everything on his own–and the team around him has nothing to offer.

I just feel bad for Jack at this point. I know it’s going to take a while for the team to get adjusted. They have a new coach. A new GM. But I don’t even know how you look at the rest of your team every morning when you walk into the rink for practice without hating each and every one of them. He took less money than he could have gotten on his next contract just so this organization has the cap flexibility to build around him. And how does he get repaid? By his team nearly getting doubled up in shots against the Vancouver Canucks.

Buffalo fans. You guys know I got love for you. But if the Sabres continue to waste performances like this from Jack Eichel, then they’ll be officially dead to me. One of the best young players in a league full of young studs, and he’s constantly getting overshadowed because the team can’t get in the W column. It’s tragic.
